FAQ Answers:

How do I connect?

Depending on what device or operating system you are trying to connect from the process will vary.

The first step is to ensure that the wireless networking on your device is enabled. Once you have enabled wireless networking, click on search for new networks. Select one of the PEACEHAVEN networks and click connect.

When you are asked for a Key/Password enter PEACEHAVENEX122TA ~ all capitals no spaces.

Once you have connected to the PEACEHAVEN network open up a browser window. You will not be able to connect to the internet yet, but should be taken to a login screen.

Now enter your username and password (these can be found in the folder in your room) into the boxes and click log-in. To successfully log-in you will need to allow a pop-up window to open. Keep this pop-up window open to stay connected to the wireless network. Upon successful connection you should be welcomed to the network and then taken to our WIFI portal which contains Traffic News, Weather, News and other useful information.

Where can I connect from?

We have a few wireless access points around the house so you should be able to connect wherever you are in the house. If you have any problems please speak to a member of staff.

Is it secure?

Yes and No!

Yes. Your computer, when connected, is protected by firewall software so other network users are un-able to access your computer, and your computer is not visible on the internet. It is prudent if you connect to the internet that you have a firewall enabled and up-to-date anti-virus software running on your computer.

No. The connection between your computer and the wireless access point is not encrypted. There is therefore the small possibility that someone could intercept any un-encrypted communications and get any data you might send to the internet. A SSL (https - padlocked) web page is encrypted by your computer before it is sent.

Is it safe for children to use?

Our service includes the award-winning DansGuardian web content filtering software. It is set-up to enable a primary aged child to surf the internet. Like any software program it is not fool-proof so we would always suggest that you supervise children when on the internet.

I can't connect! What should I try?

Please check the following things:

Is your wireless connection enabled?

Can you see the PEACEHAVEN network?

Have you tried moving closer to a wireless access point?

How strong is the signal?

Have you clicked connect?

Have you registered and logged-in?

Are you running pop-up blocking software?

Is your firewall blocking communication?

Speak to a member of staff to see if there are any network issues.

Remember that this is a free service and will not be available 100% of the time.

I have been blocked, why?

Remember, a content filter is running and will block any unsuitable material, including links on pages you are trying to view. The filter is strict and will sometimes block pages which appear to be harmless. We believe it is better to be safe rather than open vulnerable persons to unsuitable material.

The content filter will also block downloads of any executable file e.g. .exe or .zip or media file .mp3 and .wav files. This does means that the operating system and anti-virus software won't be able to get updates.

The firewall also blocks communication on most ports. This means while you can receive e-mail via programs like outlook you will not be able to send e-mails.

There are also time limits and download limits in place to protect the network from over use.

If you are unable to access something that you need access to, please see a member of staff.
