FAQ Answers:

How do I connect?

Depending on what device or operating system you are trying to connect from the process will vary.

The first step is to ensure that the wireless networking on your device is enabled. Once you have enabled wireless networking, click on search for new networks. You should see a wireless network in the list called PEACEHAVEN. Select this network and click connect.

The PEACEHAVEN is an open network and requires no special security settings of keys.

Once you have connected to the PEACEHAVEN network open up a browser window. You will not be able to connect to the internet yet, but should be taken to a login screen. If you have not used the service before you will need to see a member of staff, who will generate a free acount for you.

Now enter your username and password you were given into the boxes and click log-in. To successfully log-in you will need to allow a pop-up window to open. Keep this pop-up window open to stay connected to the wireless network. Upon successful connection you should be welcomed to the network and then taken to our WIFI portal which contains Traffic News, Weather, News and other useful information.

Where can I connect from?

We currently have 1 wireless access point situated in the office. The closer you are to this the better connection you will have.

We have had guests connect from all over the house including the Chapel. Other guests have struggled, only being able to connect from outside the office and in the dining room. If you are experiencing poor connection and signal strengths then move we suggest moving closer to the office.

Is it secure?

Yes and No!

Yes. Your computer, when connected, is protected by firewall software so other network users are un-able to access your computer, and your computer is not visible on the internet. It is prudent if you connect to the internet that you have a firewall enabled and up-to-date anti-virus software running on your computer.

No. The connection between your computer and the wireless access point is not encrypted. There is therefore the small possibility that someone could intercept any un-encrypted communications and get any data you might send to the internet. A SSL (https - padlocked) web page is encrypted by your computer before it is sent.

Is it safe for children to use?

Our service includes a the award-winning DansGuardian web content filtering software. It is set-up to enable a primary aged child to surf the internet. Like any software program it is not fool-proof so we would always suggest that you supervise children when on the internet.

I can't connect! What should I try?

Please check the following things:

Is your wireless connection enabled?

Can you see the PEACEHAVEN network?

Have you tried moving closer to the wireless access point?

How strong is the signal?

Have you clicked connect?

Have you registered and logged-in?

Are you running pop-up blocking software?

Is your firewall blocking communication?

Speak to Tim to see if there are any network issues.

Remember that this is a free service and will not be available 100% of the time.

I have been blocked, why?

Remember, a content filter is running and will block any unsuitable material, including links on pages you are trying to view. The filter is strict and will sometimes block pages which appear to be harmless. We think though it is better to be safe.

The content filter will also block downloads of any executable file e.g. .exe or .zip or media file .mp3 and .wav files. This does means that the operating system and anti-virus software won't be able to get updates.

The firewall also blocks communication on most ports. This means while you can receive e-mail via programs like outlook you will not be send e-mails.

There are also time limits and download limits in place to protect the network from over use.

If you are unable access something that you need access, please see Tim.
